The Kearney Tennis Association was established by local tennis enthusiasts as a means of supporting and promoting the sport throughout the Kearney area. The association provides an indoor facility for players wishing to keep their games honed over the long Nebraska winter, runs adult and junior tournaments and socials, helps with fund-raising for the university tennis teams, and sponsors leagues and clinics for area players.
Membership in the Kearney Tennis Association is drawn significantly from those people who join the Kearney Indoor facility. For an annual fee, these members receive access to the four indoor courts at the fairgrounds from November through March along with the opportunity to participate in the leagues and clinics offered at this facility. Membership fees are primarily used to rent the facility from the Fairgrounds Board and to pay utility usage costs (lights, heating, etc.). Kearney Indoor members may sign up for open court time, join clinics at an average cost of $5.00/1-hr. session, or participate in leagues at a cost of $25 (including tennis balls).
For those who limit their tennis play to the outdoor season, the KTA offers a summer membership. This $10.00 annual fee entitles the member to participate in KTA summer leagues, clinics, registers him/her to receive our newsletter with information about upcoming local tennis events, provides a discounted entry fee for all KTA-sponsored tennis tournaments, and invites the summer member to participate in some of our social and mixers.
